How To Release and/or Renew IP Addresses on Windows XP | 2000 | NT
- Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.
- Click Run... on this menu.
- If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.
- Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).
- If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.
- Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
Tips:
- If it is not necessary to view the current IP addresses on a computer, simply type 'ipconfig /release' or 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears in Step 3.
- To bring a computer back onto the network after moving it to a different location, or experiencing an unexpected outage, first release, then renew the IP address. Computers on DHCP networks often (but not always) re-establish network connectivity automatically.

Convert a Internal Hard Drive to and External one

A lot of people don't know that an external harddrive is almost identical to the one inside your computer. The only difference is that it's in a cheap little box known as an "external enclosure". If you're upgrading harddrives in your laptop or desktop, you can pull out the old hard drive and convert it into an external harddrive by following these steps.

Take the harddrive out of the computer. Take notice of the connection side of it - you're going to need to buy the appropriate enclosure. The most common types of connections are IDE (pictured here) and SATA. Buy the external harddrive enclosure that matches the connection type.

Once you've got the external harddrive enclosure, take it out of the package. If it isn't already disassembled, you should carefully do that now. It typically consists of the enclosure case, interface (the computer chip looking thing), a cable, and sometimes heat sinks.

If the enclosure for your external harddrive included heat sinks, screw them into the harddrive. Make sure they're facing the same direction. These will help keep your external harddrive from overheating.

Plug the hard drive into the interface. If it's SATA, this will be super easy. If you're working with IDE, be very careful not to bend the pins. Depending on the size of the drive, some of the connections may go unused. It depends on whether or not the external harddrive is big enough to require a power source.

Place the drive into the case. Some cases are built with a two part design (like the one here) while others use a slide-in design. Once the case is assembled, screen in the remaining screws to seal the external harddrive off.

Almost all external harddrives plug in from the outside using USB or firewire. From here, all you have to do is plug the cable from the external harddrive to your computer. The hard drive will mount on the computer just like a store bought external harddrive.

New AVG antivirus version 2011. Good bye 9.0
When upgrading to AVG 2011, all of your current AVG settings will be kept, and the previous version will be automatically removed from your computer.
To upgrade to AVG 2011 from AVG 9.0:
- Go to the download page for the latest installation file (once there, right-click the file you need and save it to the Desktop).
- If unsure which file to choose, get the AVG Download Manager file.
- If you need to download the complete AVG installation file, use the 32bit or 64bit installer file (if unsure, choose the 32bit version).
AVG Anti-Virus 2011
AVG Internet Security 2011 - Double-click the downloaded AVG installation file on your Desktop.
- Follow the installation wizard.
- When prompted, use the copy&paste method to enter your AVG License Number.
You can find more detailed installation instructions (including screenshots) in the AVG Installation Guide.
AVG 2011 should now be successfully installed on your computer.
